Workshops 'Fur, Sustainability & Dialogue'
As we all know, the fashion world is facing a major transition; from one of the most polluting industries in the world to a sustainable one.
Sustainable fashion is in the first place based on the choice of sustainable materials. One of the questions that the fashion world will have to answer is whether materials of natural origin such as leather, wool, silk and fur play a role in the sustainable fashion of the future. Although that may seem logical at first, the opinions about this are currently divided in the fashion world.
To support students in determining their choice, Furlab is organizing three workshops 'Fur, Sustainability & Dialogue' this autumn. These are open registration workshops where all students of your academy who are interested are welcome.
The workshops focus on knowledge exchanges and dialogue on the theme of sustainability and natural materials in general and fur in particular.
The workshops have both an informative and practical character. The topics covered include:
- is fur completely biodegradable?
- what are the factors that influence the eco-footprint of the various fur types?
- what about traceability and transparency in the fur industry?
- what are the recycle and upcycle possibilities of fur?
- how can new processing techniques contribute to a more efficient use of fur?
- how can fur (and clothing) maintain its functional and communicative function in the future while we have to consume much less?
Furlab sees the workshops as the start of a dialogue to especially hear the vision of a new generation of designers on the future possibilities of using fur as part of sustainable fashion.
Workshop 1 will be held on September 23 and 30 from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Workshop 2 will be held on October 14 and 21 from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
In addition to the extensive attention to dialogue, there will also be plenty of room to get to work with fur practically (as we actually do during all our workshops).
tudents who actually want to translate their vision into a research or design project around 'sustainability' can appeal to our 'Fund for Young Designers'. In that case Furlab will make fur available.
We will record all experiences and visions that arise from the workshops in a report that will become available to all students who are interested in it and who have not attended the workshops.
The workshops last two days per group with a maximum of 6 people per group to ensure social distancing. Participation is free of charge, including the use of materials during the workshops and lunch. Depending on the participants, the workshops will be given in English or Dutch.
To register, you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org stating workshop 1 or 2, name, telephone number and the name of the academy where you are studying.
